The AKM 74/1 is an assault rifle that appears in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Lost Alpha.
“ | An upgrade of the classic Soviet assault rifle, now equipped with a folding stock. It uses 7.62x39 mm ammunition. It is a simple and reliable weapon, but the cheapness of its production affected its ergonomy and accuracy. Rarely seen in the Zone because of the surplus of its newer models. - Inventory description |

Overview[]
- The AKMS (Автома́т Кала́шникова модернизи́рованный складной, Avtomát Kaláshnikova modernizírovanny skladnoy, Modernized Kalashnikov Automatic Rifle Folding) is the folding-stock variant of the AKM, the standard weapon of the Soviet Army introduced in 1959.
- Compared to it's predecessor AK-47 the AKM weighs about 1 kg less, is more reliable, has an increased accuracy during automatic fire and was cheaper to manufacture.
- The AKM was replaced by the AK-74 in the late 1970's.
- The Sniper AKMS is a variant of this rifle (Developer's Cut only).

Notes[]
- Has an alternate version with a different texture.
- Can be found used by Duty troops, especially in the bar area. Also found in use by Monolithians at the Dark Valley base.
- As of 1.4007 DC no longer appears in Strelok's stash.
- It causes slightly more damage than its commonly found brother, Akm 74/2 (ver. 1.3003)
- The v1.4007 PRM Weapons Pack offers an additional upgrade 5A to mount a scope.
Trivia[]
- The cartridge was changed from 5.45x39mm to the historically correct 7.62x39mm in the Developer's Cut (1.4000).
- The inventory description before v1.4005 is that of the Akm 74/2 and therefor to be ignored.
